These papers are concerned with Riley's military service during the Civil War. Captain Riley, a member of the Union Army, was captured by the Confederates. An account of his capture, escape, and return to his unit is contained in the collection. Two diaries provide insight into the routine of military life. Riley's pension application and pension record are also included in the collection.
